Rock the fringe by Nick Knight
This picture shows a black and white photo of Lily Donaldson in a still-state of motion with her hair being blown in the wind. She is shown wearing a glamorous dress with lots of long strings on top that further enhance the motion portrayed, as does her loose arm, we can even say that its possible that Knight was trying to rein-act the image of someone falling.
This looks like it was taken indoors as the background is completely black, telling us that the photo was staged and we also can note that its possible that the choice of a black background was done since it helped keep the viewers focus on the model. The main light that can clearly be seen is the front light. The photographer used the word 'rock' to name this picture which instantly implants a feeling of 'music & freedom' within the viewer. the name aswel as the facial expression of the actress both display trates often related to the world of rock and roll, i.e. living in a world without control. The contrast is varied in the picture as her dress is high while her body is low.This picture was taken to celebrate the season's obsession with fringing in 2009.
