- Alvin Langdon Coburn was born on June 11th, 1882 and died on November 23th, 1966.
- He became a key figure in the development of American pictorialiam.
- In 1890, his uncle gave him a 4x5 Kodak camera. At this point, he discovered his talent and love for photography.
- His cousin, F.Holland Day, who was already an international photographer. He noticed Alvin's talent and encouraged him to be a photographer.
- In 1902, coburn opened his own studio in New York.
- In 1917, he showed the first abstract photographs, which he called 'Vortographs'
