Evaluating Alvin Langdon Coburn's photograph
'Vortograph' of Ezra Pound
Here we can see a distilled portrait photo in black & white of a man, likely in his 40's, dressed in fashionable working attire which was the norm during the period in which it was taken (1917). His face is overlapping with copies of different size which creates an illusion of relativity for the viewer, however, a key point to notice is the focus and attention demanded by his eyes, we, as viewers, are instantly locked onto them and it is because of their authority (further enhanced by his facial expression) that we feel somewhat obedient in this photos presence. The photo is in low contrast and more than likely taken indoors, it makes me feel dizzy and even secluded through its over lapping and stiffness. Having done some research into vortographs, this technique uses mirrors to create a sense of movement and dizzing angles, which can be clearly seen here. However, unlike some of Coburn's more abstract vortographs, this one does not create a kaleidoscopic effect.
Evaluating Nick Knight's photograph
Rock the fringe by Nick Knight
This picture shows a black and white photo of Lily Donaldson in a still-state of motion with her hair being blown in the wind. She is shown wearing a glamorous dress with lots of long strings on top that further enhance the motion portrayed, as does her loose arm, we can even say that its possible that Knight was trying to rein-act the image of someone falling.
This looks like it was taken indoors as the background is completely black, telling us that the photo was staged and we also can note that its possible that the choice of a black background was done since it helped keep the viewers focus on the model. The main light that can clearly be seen is the front light. The photographer used the word 'rock' to name this picture which instantly implants a feeling of 'music & freedom' within the viewer. the name aswel as the facial expression of the actress both display trates often related to the world of rock and roll, i.e. living in a world without control. The contrast is varied in the picture as her dress is high while her body is low. This picture was taken to celebrate the season's obsession with fringing in 2009.
SHOW studios also created a video for this shoot.

Love & Hate
The first slide shows all the list of things i love.
I have used pictures from google images and made a collage of most of the things i love.
I went to google images and typed in the name of the thing i love and picked the image i felt was best.
I wanted to achieve a visual mood board of all the things i love that make me happy.
This relates to my theme 'Love & Hate' as its a collection of the images i love.
First, i made a list of the things i hate.
On the second one, I made a collection of pictures that visually shows the things i hate.
I did this by going to google images and picking out pictures that portray my hate of that thing.
It relates to the theme 'Love & Hate' as it shows all the major things i hate and can't stand.
From this presentatuion, I've learnt that there are more things I love than hate. Also, i found that some of my hates are shared by my friends and the people close to me.
Evaluating Alix Malka's photograph
Eaux Profondes by Alix Malka
This image shows a girl with white short hair across her face. Her eyes are hidden but you can see her lips. Her arm are thrown about. Her dress is made of small shiny squares put together. This gives a crystal view. There seems to be a hint of water splashed on her. As you can see the every little drops of water, it makes it seem like her movement is slowed down giving a soft feel to the picture. It looks like she's trying to express her feelings to the viewers. I think Alix wants to capture her emotions onto a picture. She seems like she almost blending in with the background. The image overall is blue which gives an impression that the picture was taken underwater. The colour 'blue' creates a magical and mystical atomosphere, almost like a fantasy. This is a mysterious image which makes the viewers curious about what she's trying to tell. This photograph is high contrast overall as you can clearly see the colour difference of her whie hair and dark background. However, there are some low contrast in some areas. Majority of the lines shown in the picture is straight. Also, the shape triangle is shown by her hair, and her arms. I think top light is used to create this picture and you can see the light on top of her hair and her arms; her dress shines mostly on the top. I really like this picture taken by Alix Malka because it's more like a dream and people can escape from the harsh reality.
