Compositional Visual Research

This is my first visual research into compositional devices used by Harold Edgerton. I used two cards, Queen of hearts and Ace of Spades where the hearts symbolises love and the spades symbolises hate (as it is an upside down heart). I placed the Queen of hearts on top right and the Ace of spades on the bottom left. I used a black A4 card as a background to my picture. Then I experimented with lights by changing its position but the light had to always come from the right side as Queen of hearts was placed there. I did this because I wanted the 'love' to be seen in a brighter light that 'hate'. The best position that light was coming from was when it would create a line between the two cards. This also showed the change of tone of the backgroud which is similar to Harold Edgerton's work. I also took pictures from different angles to see which one tured out the best. I took pictures from side view, front view and top view. I felt that the side view didn't work as well as the rest because the Ace of spades came out to be blurry. The best view that worked was the top view because you could clearly cards and the direction the light is coming from, also the use of space between two cards was equally seen.
